Okto is a Vienna-based participatory television station that offers enthusiastic individuals and communities an opportunity to independently communicate their ideas through media.Since 2005 the TV station works on a non-profit basis and provides content that is complementary to the one distributed by public and commercial television stations. Characteristically therefore are the quite challenging and provocative media contents. Okto especially offers a platform to those communities, issues and opinions that are often neglected and underrepresented in mainstream media.

Okto wants to encourage people to create television content. For this reason the community TV station offers a wide range of media-pedagogical courses and trainings – from (inter-cultural) video-journalism and courses in media- and copyright law to presentation. This mediation ensures journalistic standards as well as technical know-how, the producers need for the realisation of their ideas.
